Dubwear Is Live!

Dubwear Is Live!

After months of developing ideas, creating designs and building the website, Dubwear is officially live.

Dubwear is an independent clothing brand inspired by dub music, reggae and sound-system culture. The idea is simple: to create clothing that feels connected to the music and the community around it, without turning that culture into a costume or a collection of clichés.

We want to make shirts, sweaters and jackets that people genuinely enjoy wearing. Clothing that feels just as natural at a dub session or reggae festival as it does on an ordinary day.

Two collections to start with

We are launching Dubwear with two main collections: Dub Essentials and Dubwear Originals.

Dub Essentials is the more expressive side of the brand. The collection features graphic T-shirts inspired by the words, sounds and images associated with dub culture. Basslines, turntables, selectors, speaker stacks, echo and delay all play a part in the designs.

The first collection includes shirts such as Original Vibes Only, Low End Lifestyle, Raise the Bass, Lower the Stress, More Echo, Less Ego and Respect the Selecta.

Each design has its own character. Some are playful, some are more direct and others will mainly make sense to people who are already familiar with the culture. That feeling of recognition is an important part of the collection. You might wear a shirt because you like the artwork, but it becomes more meaningful when someone else understands the reference.

Dubwear Originals takes a cleaner approach. This collection is built around the Dubwear logo and offers more understated shirts, sweaters and jackets. These pieces are made for people who want to represent the brand without wearing a large graphic design.

The two collections look different, but they belong together. One focuses on the messages and visual language surrounding dub. The other focuses on the identity of Dubwear itself.

Inspired by more than the music

Dub is often described as a genre, but there is much more around it than the recordings alone.

There are the handmade speaker stacks, the selectors choosing the next tune, the records and dubplates, the analogue equipment and the people who come together in front of the sound system. There is also a visual culture built around record sleeves, flyers, typography and hand-painted signs.

All of those elements inspire Dubwear.

The designs are not meant to reproduce old artwork or simply place familiar reggae symbols on a shirt. Instead, we use the culture as a starting point and try to create something original from it.

That means paying attention to the details. A turntable tonearm, the shape of a speaker box or the repetition created by an echo effect can become the basis for a new design. The final result should feel connected to dub while still standing on its own as a piece of clothing.

Clothing can create a connection

One of the best parts of music culture is the way it connects people who may not know each other.

At a session, you can see someone react to the same record, recognise a familiar bassline or smile when the selector plays an unexpected version. There is often an immediate sense of shared understanding.

Clothing can create a similar connection.

A shirt can start a conversation. It can show what kind of music you are into or help someone recognise that you share an interest. That does not mean everything needs to be loud or obvious. Sometimes a small logo or a phrase only a few people understand is enough.

That is what we want Dubwear to offer: clothing that helps people express their connection to the music and recognise that connection in others.

This is only the beginning

The launch of the website is an important moment, but it is not the finished story.

The current collections are the starting point. More designs and garments will follow, along with new photography, collaborations and stories from the wider dub and reggae community.

The blog will also become an important part of Dubwear. We will use it to share the stories behind individual designs, but also to write about subjects such as sound-system culture, selectors, dub production, vinyl, festivals and the history surrounding the music.

Some articles will be written for people who have been part of the scene for years. Others will help people who are only just beginning to discover dub. Both belong here.

For now, we are proud to open the doors and introduce the first two collections.

Dubwear is here, and we are here to stay.

We hope the brand becomes a place where people can discover new designs, learn more about the culture and connect through a shared love of low frequencies.

Welcome to Dubwear.
